Sport

The HeronBridge Sports Complex offers Football, Rugby and Hockey Fields and Netball and Tennis Courts. In 2006, to commemorate the new fields, the Under 14 Rugby & Netball Festival was initiated, which has now evolved into a U14 Hockey, Netball and Rugby Festival. We also take part in sporting tours nationally. Students are encouraged to take part in as many co-curricular activities as possible, we required students to be involved in at least one activity per term or season.

Team Selection

Senior Teams ( U16 – Open boys and girls) are selected in Term 1.
Junior Teams (U14 – U15 boys and girls) are selected in Term 3.
Due to the interest in basketball not every student will be able to
participate in a fixture each week. Students that demonstrate a
positive attitude and conduct themselves according to the HBC
values will be the preferred choice. The following points serve as
a guideline only:
● All students that attend practices twice per week are eligible for
team selection.
● It is the MIC discretion whether to use a student that has only
attended one practice per week due to commitments to other
co-curricular activities.
● Any student that fails to excuse him/herself adequately from
practice or fixtures will not be selected the following week and
will need to attend practice to be available for the following fixture.
● Selection will, as far as possible, work on a rotation basis so
that all students that have met with the above criteria will get a
chance to play in a school fixture.
● The correct school basketball kit is a requirement to play school
fixtures. This can be bought at the school uniform shop.
● Students with the incorrect uniform will not be selected to play
and can be replaced by another player before the match starts.

Cricket

Our cricket has grown from strength to strength over the past few years. We participate in the Johnny Waite Tournament and our 1st XI attend an annual tour to Weston Agricultural School for a 20/20 tournament. This is the highlight for most cricket boys. Team Selection

The following factors will be considered by the selection
committee when selecting senior teams and individual players:
Ability
● A player’s ability is the most important factor in determining
which team he plays in.
Form
● This is a critical factor but not the only one. A player’s
performance will be assessed over a number of matches,
not just a single performance and the quality of opposition
will also be taken into account.
Training
● All players are required to attend training sessions
scheduled by the coach. Standard sessions will be on
Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and off season.
Attitude & Work Ethic
● It is expected that all players will approach training
sessions in the same way that they would approach a game.
Behaviour
● All players must adhere to the HeronBridge College Code
of Conduct at all times when representing the school both on
and off the field.
Supporting the Team
● Cricket is a team sport and it is expected that players will
work together at both training sessions and on match day.

who have been involved with the learners from when they started Volleyball:
● Commitment, ability and need of the team is taken into consideration
in this discussion
● The decision will be made prior to the first game of a season.
● A player who is showing promise may be brought into the team for one
game to test how he/she works with the team or due to an injury so a
player is needed. This shows that we see promise in the individual, does not

● As the season continues, coaches will swap players around to increase
exposure of the less experienced with the more experienced.
● A core 2 or 3 people will be consistent u16A teams, the rest will float
